How we help
The Laureus Sport for Good Foundation is able to support a
diverse portfolio of projects in various ways. From the funding of
equipment, and programme core costs to more sophisticated capacity
building initiatives and establishment of youth leadership
programmes.
Plus, the active involvement of our Laureus Academy members
means we can inspire long-term change. Change in the way
governments and other organisations perceive sport and its ability
to address social issues. Change in the way kids lead their lives
both on and off the pitch.
Social challenges
We support projects that try to make a difference within their
local community.
-
Social Exclusion
Tackling antisocial behaviour at its root cause helping
individuals discover a sense of community and teamwork through
sport.
-
Gun & gang violence
Sport can offer a way out of the vicious cycle of gun and gang
violence, as projects like Polisportiva and Midnight
Basketball Leagues have shown.
-
Discrimination in all its guises
By making sport accessible to all, create a level playing field
where respect can be earned irrespective of race, creed, colour or
physical handicap.
-
Community integration and cohesion
Communities that play together get better at working together,
too. We've seen this in action at projects like KICKFORMORE in
Stuttgart.
-
Peace and reconciliation
In war-torn areas and territories of longstanding dispute like
Israel and Palestine, Laureus is committed to supporting projects
that bring peaceful reconciliation through sport.
-
Education
Sport can play a role in helping to keep young people in school,
as well as in delivering life-saving education and skills training
to remote communities and villages.
-
Health
By promoting healthier lifestyles through sport, we are looking
out for the wellbeing of young people from all walks of life, all
round the world.
Areas of expertise
-
Project Delivery
The Sport for Good Foundation, assisted by local Laureus
national foundations, works with partners to help develop their
project delivery capability: from getting a great project off the
ground to staffing and running it in an efficient manner, to
quantifying and proving success.
-
Organisational Development
When a great idea takes on, you might want it to grow. We offer
advice and assistance to projects that need to build their
organisational capability. Over the last ten years we've helped
projects like the Indigo Youth Movement and Mathare Youth
Sports Association (MYSA) increase in reach and ambition.
-
Sustainability
Sustainability is a key consideration for any project supported
by the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation-we want to ensure each
venture makes a long-lasting and continued contribution to its
community. In particular the peer mentor model has been used
successfully at a number of projects, most notably the Mathare Youth
Sports Association (MYSA) in Kenya.
